Paul Johnson Obituary

Paul Melvin Johnson died peacefully while in Hospice care in Boynton Beach, FL, after a courageous battle with lung disease. 

Paul was born December 9, 1944 in Boston, MA to Allan C. Johnson and Virginia (Moylan) (Johnson) Smith.

Paul graduated from San Francisco State University in 1969.  He worked in the insurance industry quickly climbing his way to President and CEO.  Upon his retirement Paul opened his lifelong dream of a billiard club in Florida.

 Paul was a world traveler, he enjoyed Egypt, England, France, China, and more.  He loved to play golf, billiards, music, and most of all, loved his many canine companions. 

In 2019 Paul moved to Maine to be with family and received a double lung transplant through Mass General.

Paul is predeceased by his parents, life partner John Cox, sisters Nancy Renaud, Helen Abbott, brother-in-law Richard Abbott, nephew Ricky Abbott.

Paul is survived by dear friend and companion Sheila Snell, brother David, sister-in-law Julie, nieces:  Bailey (Jeffrey) Smith, Brendle (Tyler) Fowlie, Pamela (Paul) Fraquhar, Lynne Francolini, Deb (Hank) Holmgren, Colleen (Gary) Sorenson, Kathleen Harris, Maureen Chumsae.  Nephews:  Brody Johnson and Scott Abbott.  Great-nieces:  Sidney Farquhar, Bella Smith, and Jessica Bacon.  Great-nephews Ben Farquhar, Grant and Ewan Fowlie, and many others. 

The family is eternally grateful to the lung donor’s family and the team at Mass General whose gifts and efforts gave Paul four additional years with his family.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Paul’s memory to your local animal shelter.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, Maine.
